One topic that continues to surface in my group meetings, coaching conversations, and Igniting Workshops is self-love.
No matter the age, background, or life experience of the people I serve, this message keeps finding its way back to the center of our conversations. I’ve come to realize that many of the challenges we face in relationships, confidence, purpose, and personal growth often trace back to the relationship we have with ourselves.
So today, I want to share a thought that keeps emerging:
Before we can truly build healthy relationships with others, we must learn to cultivate a healthy relationship with ourselves.
Love yourself first.
I truly believe that once you become happily single, you can eventually become happily involved with someone else. If you’re not happy being with yourself, by yourself, how can someone else be happy being with you?
Think about it. When we’re not whole within ourselves, we often look for another person to fill a void they were never designed to fill. We expect them to make us feel worthy, complete, loved, or happy. That’s a heavy burden for anyone to carry.
It’s like asking someone to continually pour into a cup that has a hole in the bottom. No matter how much they give, it never feels like enough.
Before you jump into a relationship, be in a relationship with yourself. Love yourself. Hug yourself. Ignite yourself. Spend time with yourself. Listen to that amazing inner voice God placed within you.
Learn to enjoy your own company. Learn to celebrate your own journey. Learn to be content with who you are. Then, when someone joins you on your path, they’re not there to complete you..they’re there to complement you.
And the same should be true for them.
Healthy relationships happen when two whole people choose to walk together, not when two empty people expect each other to fill what’s missing.
So let’s go, Team!
Let’s love ourselves first. Because the best way to give love is to first know  and BE love within yourself.
